Police sources on the scene say Captain HS Mbatha had been travelling along the R33 to Paulpietersburg with a clerk of the Paulpietersburg Court when the incident occurred.

The Detective Commander for Paulpietersburg SAPS and two others were seriously injured in a collision along the Khambula road this morning.

Police sources on the scene say Captain HS Mbatha had been travelling along the R33 to Paulpietersburg with a clerk of the Paulpietersburg Court when the incident occurred.

The white Ford Figo they were travelling in collided with a Lewis truck that had been travelling toward Vryheid.

It is alleged that the driver of the truck veered out of his lane for some unknown reason.

All three injured were transported to Vryheid Hospital.

Paulpietersburg Station Commander Lt. Col. Thuthuka Mncube described Captain Mbatha as a very nice and humble person and wished him a speedy recovery on behalf of his colleagues at the station.
