PREVIEW: Contention reigns at Old Cemetery in Utrecht

Residents and eMadlangeni Municipality are at odds about the current state of the Old Cemetery in Utrecht.

The state of Old Cemetery in Utrecht is once again in the spotlight.

According to complaints, the cemetery remained in poor condition.

Residents alleged tombstones were obscured by overgrowth and animals often grazed upon burial plots.

The matter was reported to the eMadlangeni Municipality for comment.

An official response was received a few days later.

“We wish to state categorically that the pictures presented together with the complaint are not a representation of state of the cemetery including the weekend the complainant alleges to have visited the cemetery.”
