Protest Update: Municipal strike reaches its 9th day

The protest so far has been illegal, as no permission has been granted by the municipality

Today (May 17) marks the ninth day of the municipal workers’ strike in Ladysmith.

The protest so far has been illegal, as no permission has been granted by the municipality. However, it is believed that the strikers have now applied to the municipality for permission to stage a protest. We are still awaiting feedback from the municipality in this regard.

Speaking to a municipal employee, he said that they report to work, sign the register and then proceed to sit outside the Town Hall.

Streets in the Ladysmith CBD are still in a terrible mess.

In residential areas, refuse has not been collected. Stray animals such as dogs, goats and sometimes even cattle are ripping open the bags in certain areas, spreading rubbish all over the streets.

We will update you if any protest action is reported.
