The homemade sign in Francis Road is apparently not the only one in town that draws people’s attention to potholes in Ladysmith’s streets. The one in Francis Road calls the pothole “Houdini’s Hole” and quips that your car could disappear in it.
Another two homemade signs have appeared in the Hyde Park area, near potholes in the road.
These signs are also quite humorous and boast a picture of a giraffe in a pothole.
“These signs actually do help and warn many motorists of the potholes that can cause damage to our cars. They are also pretty funny and add a bit of humour to a serious topic,” one motorist commented.

Local resident Frikkie Kruger came forward and stated, “I am involved in putting up the funny signs by the potholes. It is one thing to stand by and criticise and another to do something about it.
“I know the first reaction of many is: ‘It’s not my problem’. Two thoughts: We keep on criticising and nothing happens or we roll up our sleeves and do something. I am sure I can set aside an hour a day.
“Yes, you are more than welcome to throw the first stone, but only if you have a workable solution you are prepared to air here. The signs put up do not obstruct traffic.”
