Watch: Chaos erupts at high school in Ladysmith as learners tear up money and pour soft drinks into rubbish bins

It is believed that what the schoolchildren were doing is part of a "status claim"

Chaos erupted at a high school in Ladysmith recently, with a video going viral on social media platforms.

The video shows learners tearing up money and throwing it on the floor, as well as pouring soft drinks such as Coca-Cola and Powerade into a bin on the school premises.

It is believed that the schoolchildren were doing this as part of a “status claim”, showing that they are wealthy and can just throw money away.

This does not seem to be a ritual of any sort, just learners showing off.

When contacted for a comment on the matter, the school said that what happened is ill disciplined and they will not tolerate such behaviour at the school.

The principal added that they are currently investigating the matter and the chairperson of the School Governing Body (SGB) has addressed the learners about their behaviour.

The video, which is all over social media, was edited by the learners and even has a song added to the video.
