PREVIEW: Newcastle Municipality one of KZN’s worst for 2017

After scoring a low 21 out of 100 in a Ratings Afrika report, Newcastle Municipality has been labelled KZN's worst performer.

Newcastle Municipality’s has been labelled KZN’s worst for the 2017 period.

Ratings Afrika recently published its Municipal Financial Sustainability Index.

This report gauged South African municipalities on their position during the 2017 financial year, on a scale of zero (poor) to 100 (good).

Newcastle’s score made it KwaZulu-Natal’s worst performing municipality.

A municipal official confirmed this was indeed the case.

However, he asked if many were not aware of that fact

“We… are mandated to encourage economic development and address the financial viability of Newcastle.”
