Sarel’s Samishka fights her way to the top

This week the learners will dress up according to different themes in the build-up to Derby Day, Saturday, June 2 at Sarel Cilliers.

Samiksha Ramballie from Sarel Cilliers High School participated in the South African karate championship held at the Ellis Park Arena on Saturday, May 26.
She was placed in the top eight in her category where she competed against brown and black belt karatekas while being a brown belt herself. She obtained her South African colours and is eligible to represent South Africa in the All Africa games in September this year. It is an excellent achievement. Congratulations from everyone at Sarel Cilliers.

CATN Olympiad Winners from Round 1
A large number of learners from Sarel Cilliers took part in the first round of the CATN Olympiad in May. Two received gold certificates, five silver and 12 bronze. Congratulations to Claudia Coulson and Nicole Johnson on their gold certificates! Claudia placed in the top 20% of the country.
Ashreen Mathraparsad, Claudia Coulson and Cheree Ollewagen proceed to Round 2 that takes place on June 6. Sarel Cilliers wish you all of the best.

Hockey
Hockey teams travelled to St Dominics on Wednesday. The second team won 3-0. The boys lost 3-2 and the first team girls won in a nail bite end 1-0.
On Saturday the first team girls took part in a fun walk. It was rather colourful and several staff members and coaches joined them.

Chess
The Sarel Cilliers chess team took on St. Dominics chess team on Wednesday, May 23. The chess team all wore their new jackets and looked very admirable and neat. Gift Ndaba was the first to succeed in putting his opposing player in checkmate and unfortunately for St. Dominics the day just kept going Sarel’s way. The chess team really excelled and won the day 5.5 : 2.5. Both teams showed great character and dignity. Congrats to the Chess team for coming out tops today!
Derby Day Fun
This week the learners will dress up according to different themes. Their creativity has no bounds and is a great source of entertainment.

Nomvelo Nhleko, Nosihle Nhlapo, Siphesihle Mthethwa and Nothando Shongwe rocking the theme of workers, hobos or goths for the build-up to Derby Day.
