The Grade 12 learners currently doing Consumer Studies at Ladysmith Secondary School (Lasec) were put to the test as part of their National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination on Friday.
They had to prepare a starter, main course or dessert as part of their practical examination (PAT2). The students had to prepare their chosen dish as part of their assignment in two hours.
Their educator, Mr K Bihaspat, invigilated the practical examination in which the learners’ skills and correct usage of cutlery and crockery were assessed. School Governing Body (SGB) member Mrs P Singh was an external moderator who assisted Mr Bihaspat during the examination.
The learners also had to remember their recipes and follow all relevant procedures in the kitchen.
One of the students stated that they don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces, just good food from fresh ingredients.
This is because, after all, no one is born a great cook – one learns by doing and experimenting.
A special thank you to Mrs P Singh, Mr AN Govender and the parents who continuously extend a hand to help the future graduates.
