UPDATE: Weekend collisions leave six injured and three dead

Both vehicle collisions will remain subject to further police investigations.

Dannhauser police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving, after five people were seriously injured as a result of an accident on Allen Farm on May 31.

According to Dannhauser SAPS Corporate Communications Officer, Sergeant Mfanafuthi Nyembe, it was alleged the motorist was driving at a high speed, when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.

It’s also alleged the driver of the vehicle fled the accident scene, leaving his four injured companions behind.

Police, as well as paramedics, were summoned to the scene, where they treated the victims for serious injuries.

“All four passengers were then taken to a local clinic, before being transferred to Madadeni Provincial Hospital where they received further medical treatment.”

It is not known at present whether the driver who fled the scene, has been located.

In a separate incident, Dannhauser police also investigating a case of culpable homicide after three people were killed in a collision on the N11 at 5am on June 1 .

According to Sergeant Mfanafuthi Nyembe, a Toyota Etios, carrying three occupants, collided head-on with an Audi.

“The driver of the Audi and a passenger were travelling towards Newcastle when the accident occurred. Unfortunately, the driver of the Etios, as well as his two passengers, were declared dead at the scene.”

The driver of the Audi had not sustained any injuries, but it’s believed his passenger sustained moderate injuries and was rushed to Madadeni Provincial Hospital to receive further medical treatment.

A case of culpable homicide was opened against the driver of the Audi, who is also expected to appear in court soon.

Both vehicle collisions will remain subject to further police investigations.
