JUST IN: Search is on for missing aircraft and pilot

When the plane did not reach its destination as planned, search efforts were coordinated to find the missing aircraft.

A search operation is underway for a missing aircraft and pilot.

According to reports, the pilot took off in a light aircraft from Newcastle Airport on Wednesday night, on a scheduled journey to St Lucia.

However, the aircraft did not arrive as planned.

Authorities have since launched a search operation for the pilot and his aircraft.

The plane is an Aeroprakt model, which is designated the call sign ZU-PCB.
