Mohan family mourns loss of 5-year-old Kiara
The Mohan family remembers young Kiara as a joyful child who always made everyone smile.
A damaged municipal skip bin allegedly toppled over, fatally wounding five-year-old Kiara Mohan at the Suryaville Municipal Flats on Friday afternoon (May 15).
Kiara is believed to have been playing outside with her friends when the bin allegedly fell over and trapped her underneath.
Mother recalls the moment she found Kiara
Her mother, Lisa Mohan, recalled the devastating moment she realised her daughter was beneath the bin.
“We were all outside at the time. Kiara was playing with her friends and having fun. I went inside to attend to my baby. When I looked out of my bedroom window, I saw that the bin had fallen over.”
“I ran outside and saw that someone was trapped underneath it. I remember thinking it could not be my child, but when I got closer, I saw that it was indeed my baby,” she said.
Lisa said family members helped lift the bin before they rushed Kiara to hospital.
“My brother and Uncle Babu helped me lift the bin and pull Kiara out. We took her to hospital immediately, but the doctors later told my husband that our baby had died from her injuries.”
“Our home will never be the same”
She described Kiara as a bubbly, well-mannered child who brought joy to everyone around her. “She loved being outdoors and dreamed of becoming a gymnast. She enjoyed dressing up, playing with make-up and being around people.”
Lisa said her daughter’s smile and friendly nature would be missed most. “She had the ability to make everyone smile. She greeted everyone, helped everyone and made people happy. Our home will never be the same without her. It feels empty and no one will ever replace her,” Lisa concluded.
