LETTER: Residents to be aware of scams in Newcastle
I want to warn people to do their research before being fooled into parting with what little they have. There is no such thing as a free ride - open your eyes and realise that these people who promise the world want nothing more than to destroy yours.

Madam – In this economy, things are getting increasingly more expensive.
Petrol prices are on the rise and salaries are just staying the same because no-one has money anymore and in a small town like Newcastle, there is not much in the way of employment. That is why children who go away to study don’t end up coming back home.

There is very little opportunity in Newcastle, and the downside of this is the increase in both crime as well as scams.
I am sure most people who use the internet often are flooded with these ‘get rich quick’ schemes that are once again doing the rounds. I see so many on a daily basis, where a person gets conned into believing that with just a small investment, you could earn huge rewards.
I am of the old-school which believes that nothing in life comes easy, so I am immediately suspicious when I see ‘opportunities’ like this, but there are many others out there who are desperate and will overlook their own feelings of unease just because they need some form of income.

It really makes me furious that some people would take advantage of others this way, and it also makes me sad that we as a nation have had to resort to these desperate measures when those in power think nothing about pocketing taxpayer’s money and sitting back while things fall apart around them.
I want to warn people to do their research before being fooled into parting with what little they have. There is no such thing as a free ride – open your eyes and realise that these people who promise the world want nothing more than to destroy yours.
