Many people in Ladysmith have been complaining about dogs continuously barking in their neighbourhoods during the day and night.
People complain that they can barely sleep at night with the incessant yapping of dogs in surrounding yards.
And yes, according to Public Safety, you can be fined for your pooch’s disruptive behaviour!
According to Annamarie Koen from the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL), there are many reasons why a dog will carry on barking and barking…
1- They may be hungry.
2- They might be afraid of the dark, so it’s best if the owner puts up a lighting system for the dog.
3- Maybe someone is in the yard.
“A dog will not bark for no reason. As a pet owner, you should get up and see what is happening. The last time we had a resident whose dog was barking and they went to investigate, they caught thieves in their backyard,” says Annamarie Koen.
According to Public Safety, a dog owner can be fined R50 if disruptive barking is reported and proved.
