The Newcastle RTI offices were contacted by Panther who relayed the information and misconduct by the RTI officer to the station commander.

A Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officer found himself on the wrong side of the law after parking a vehicle in a disabled parking bay spot at the Scott Street Mall on June 6.

The incident happened at around 7.45am on Wednesday morning.

According to the mall’s Centre Manager, Francois Panther, the officer had parked in a disabled parking bay.

“One of our security guards noticed this and immediately asked the officer to remove his vehicle from the bay,” confirmed Panther.

The offending officer allegedly disregarded the request, and proceeded to enter the mall.

“The RTI officer’s vehicle wheel was then clamped,” Panther confirmed.

The Newcastle RTI offices were contacted by Panther, who relayed the information and misconduct by the RTI officer to the station commander.

“A supervisor from the RTI came to the scene and personally reprimanded the officer. A R100 fine was paid by the guilty officer, and the car was released. We are grateful to the RTI for attending to this matter which was resolved in a most professional manner,” concluded Panther.
