PREVIEW: Reading into the state of Newcastle Library

With a significant amount of work to be completed, Bertie Meiring believes the library will not reach its June deadline either.

The deadline for reopening of the Newcastle Library has passed.

According to an executive summary presented in local council last month, this was anticipated for the end of May 2018.

This date has since come and gone.

DA councillor, Bertie Meiring conducted an oversight visit to the facility last week.

There, he said he was informed the project would extend until the end of June.

He believed this to be an optimistic estimate at best.

“Closure of the facility is to the detriment of ratepayers.”
