Update: What do you make of the supposed “Demon Trees” in Ladysmith?
If you drive along Poort Road, many people say that if you look quickly, it’s almost as if the tree moves, even on a windless day
Do so-called “Demon Trees” really exist? In our last update, we received many comments regarding one such spooky tree that was spotted at the Ladysmith graveyard recently.
Many have made comments and aired their views regarding these trees that seem to take on paranormal forms…

Many people say these trees look eerie and demonic, and they feel uncomfortable when driving past them.
If you drive along Poort Road, past the first tree that inspired us to coin the term, many people say that if you look quickly, it’s almost as if the tree moves, even on a windless day. Then you look again and it’s standing as rigid as all the other trees around it. There are two such trees in Poort Road, as reported in our articles.
From a certain angle, one of the trees appears to have a bowed head, with a wing extending out from its back. An angel? No, but aren’t those horns we see?
Anyway, opinions vary from the demonic to the angelic to the unusual to “it’s just a tree and nothing special at all”.

Maybe you’ll see the tree’s greenery move to reveal a sinister sneer, or maybe you’ll just think “what’s all the fuss about?”
A Ladysmith Gazette journalist interviewed a few people living in Ladysmith about these “terrifying trees”. Some took it as a joke, while others do apparently believe there is something “evil” going on.
“Evil is everywhere and takes the form of anything. I drive past these trees every day when going to work and I am very uncomfortable,” said one resident.
