Protesters gather outside municipality

Again, many street signs were damaged during the protest action.

A group of protesters has gathered outside the municipality this afternoon watched by police in riot gear and security guards.

This follows a morning of running battles with the police as protesters burnt tyres on the Greytown Road, Vryheid Road, Sibongile and Victoria Street.
Police were less tolerant than during last Wednesday’s chaos and used rubber bullets to clear roads.

At one stage motorists were threatened by people carrying rocks near Dundee Secondary School. Police and traffic officers launched a volley of rubber bullets that scattered the group into the nearby veld.

Later, smaller groups moved into town to gather at the municipality. It is understood that the municipality is closes as are most shops in the CBD.
