LP Gas Safety Association to investigate gas cylinder explosion at Ladysmith home

They will be looking into the matter to try and find out if an illegal gas cylinder was used

The Liquefied Petroleum (LP) Gas Association will be investigating the gas bottle explosion that occurred on Monday night (June 25) at a home in Schoon Street.

The family say they saw flames coming out of the gas heater in their living room.

One of the residents quickly jumped into action and ran out of the home with the entire heater.

A matter of seconds later, the gas bottle exploded, sending shock waves through the area.

The loud bang was heard throughout the entire Hospital Park area and even in Van Riebeeck Park.

The LP Gas Safety Association of South Africa are there to spread awareness about safely using LP Gas and appliances.

They will be looking into the matter to try and find out if an illegal gas cylinder was used or maybe the hose that was used was cracked.

They will also check to see if the cylinder had a seal on it.

The incident that occurred in Ladysmith is said to be bizarre, as cases of cylinders exploding do not happen all the time.

Due to the sheer force of the explosion, all the front windows of the house shattered.

The residents say they were in a state of shock afterwards and are lucky to be alive.

The Fire Department, Public Safety, police and emergency personnel responded to the scene.
