Residents get flexible at International Yoga Day – (Gallery)
In addition to yoga demonstrations and market stalls, residents enjoyed a karate practise session by Butokukan Newcastle, dance items by Aja Nachale Dance Academy, tarot card readings and a display of vintage cars.
Residents found their inner yogi at the Fernwood Grounds on Sunday.
Local practitioner, Ash Beeharie explained the Yoga 4 U event coincided with International Yoga Day, which is celebrated on June 21 annually.

This was the fourth event hosted in Newcastle.
Beeharie explained that although the event normally took place in June, organisers chose July 1 in order to have more residents join in the experience.
“We wanted to make the event bigger with market stalls, and wanted people to enjoy themselves and see what yoga is all about.”
In addition to yoga demonstrations and market stalls, residents enjoyed a karate practise session by Butokukan Newcastle, dance items by Aja Nachale Dance Academy, tarot card readings and a display of vintage cars.

Frik Willemse and Indranie Ramparsad also each won a lucky draw hamper.
In conclusion, Beeharie thanked sponsors, donors and those who provided displays on the day, for contributing to the resounding success of the fourth Yoga 4 U event.
