Uelzen Grade 4’s learn about stick fighting, forests and more
The cultural adviser, Joe, enlightened the pupils about the Zulu culture and they were treated to a vibrant display of Zulu dancing and drumming in the evening.
The Grade 4 class of Uelzen had a wonderful three-day tour exploring the Mangrove Swamps, at the Umlalazi Nature Reserve, learning about the formation of dunes on the beach and discovering treasures on the seashore.
On the second day, the children spent a beautiful morning in the Dlinza Forest, learning about the different layers of a forest as well as the creatures who make the forest their home.
The highlight of the Dlinza Forest was climbing to the top of the tower on the aerial boardwalk and looking down at the canopy of the forest. This was rather scary for some children, who have a fear of heights! A tasty picnic lunch was enjoyed at the Fort Nongqayi Museum before setting off for Shakaland.
The cultural adviser, Joe, enlightened the pupils about the Zulu culture and they were treated to a vibrant display of Zulu dancing and drumming in the evening. On Friday morning the cultural programme was completed with stick fighting and spear throwing. The pupils had a wonderful time shopping for Zulu craftwork in the market. Once again it was time to hop on the Uelzen bus to return to Dundee. Very well done to the Grade 4’s for being such good ambassadors for Uelzen! A huge thank you to Pastor Stephan Barthel and Gerhardus Scholtz for assisting Mrs Johnson on this tour. Your time is much appreciated!
