MUST READ: Help find couples’ missing engagement ring – reward offered

Luné went as far as checking the drain traps in her house and using a metal detector to find the precious piece of jewellery.

The value of a personal item is not always measured in monetary terms.

Luné Holtzhauzen is distraught after her engagement ring went missing on September 19, and heartbroken knowing the jewellery piece can never be adequately replaced.

She recalled stopping at Pick ‘n Pay Family Supermarket to shop on the day.

“It’s a habit that I have, to tug on my ring using my thumb.”

She went home and prepared supper for her family, and Luné said it was only the next day when she realised the ring was missing from her hand. Thus began a frantic search and an attempt to retrace her steps.

Luné approached management at Pick ‘n Pay, who assisted her in viewing the CCTV footage of her leaving the store.

“It was clear I still had my ring on my finger when I left the store.”

A distraught Luné is desperately looking for her engagement ring.

Returning to work the next day, Luné said her colleagues and learners at Amajuba High School shared her concern for the missing ring and said they would keep their eyes peeled.

“The teachers and children were so helpful and accommodating. I actually took a day off to look for my ring.”

Luné went as far as checking the drain traps in her house and using a metal detector to find the precious piece of jewellery.

“I turned my house upside down. I even took my dog to the vet to get an X-ray done because I thought he had swallowed it.”

What sets this item of jewellery apart from any other ring bought at a store?

To Luné and her fiance, this engagement ring holds sentimental value and unlike any other ring, was custom- made just for Luné.

“My fiance used his mom’s and dad’s rings to fashion. It has a unique design and it meant the world to me. You cannot buy it in a store and that’s what was special.”

Desperate to find the ring, the couple are now offering a reward for the return of the ring.

“If anyone has picked up the ring or maybe saw it anywhere, please contact us immediately,” pleaded a tearful Luné.
