This week in 1993, these three stories were a few of many to make headlines in the Estcourt and Midlands News
1. Cadets set for international recognition – Five of the Estcourt Cadet Band members were chosen for the Natal Prestige Band. To date, the band has played at the Royal Show and Durban Tattoo.
2. Ethnic SADF unit withdrawn – The South African Police and the South African Defence Force agreed to remove the controversial 3SAI Battalion from the troubled Estcourt/Wembezi area.
3. Toll fees increase – The Minister of Transport Dr Piet Welgemoed approved a standard vehicle classification system and a revised adjustment in toll and concession tariffs on toll roads.
