The first 3 days and nights are devoted to Mother Durga – the remover of the miseries of life.
Navarathri 2018
The Dundee Hindu Temple will be observing Navarathri, from Wednesday, October 10 to Friday, October 19. Daily abeshegam will be at 6 am. Evening prayer service will commence at 6pm with rituals, the rendition of bhajans and kirtans, offering of flower petals for the 108 Durga mantras garba and aarthi. During Navarathri we worship the “shakti” or power aspect of God in the form of the universal mother referred to as Durga. It is the power of this motherhood aspect of God that gives rise to creation, preservation and destruction. The nine nights are divided into sets of three nights to worship the different aspects of the Supreme Goddess. The first 3 days and nights are devoted to Mother Durga – the remover of the miseries of life. The second three days and nights are devoted to Mother Lakshmi – the giver of spiritual wealth.
Suhagin Pooja
The Suhagin Pooja and Lakshmi Narayan Vivah will be held on Saturday, October 13, commencing at 4pm, followed by the regular daily service. Supper will be served.
Durga and Kanya pooja

Saraswathi pooja
On Thursday, October 18, a special prayer will be held at 3.30pm, especially for all learners and educators. All devotees irrespective of age are also welcome to this sacred ritual of “tongue writing”. This prayer is dedicated to Mother Saraswathi, the Goddess of music, speech, learning and supreme wisdom. The success of all ventures that we undertake is due to her blessing. All learners must bring a school book and flower petals.
Kindly bring your own hawan kund.
On Friday, October 19, the bathing of the Mother will commence at 8am with Vijaya Dashmi pooja thereafter. Transport has been arranged to the Tayside river where the conclusion of the Navarathri prayer will take place. The bus will leave at 11am. In your daily prayers, spare a thought for all of the sick, the disadvantaged, the elderly and the victims of war and natural disasters. Pray for peace and non-violence in our country. Dedicate a prayer to Mother Saraswathi to enable the medical world to find a cure for all the dreaded diseases that plague our nation. May Goddess Durga bless all devotees and their families with prosperity and good health.
