Rotary’s Pradeep: a president with a plan

Singh described his relationship with his fellow Rotarians as close, referring to them as family more than just colleagues.

There’s a new man in charge of Majuba Rotary Club, with plans to lead it down its already successful path of goodwill and understanding.

The 57-year-old Newcastillian, Pradeep Singh was nominated as president of the organisation’s Newcastle Chapter in 2017, a position he gladly accepted in July of this year.

He believes the club embodies all the values and beliefs that he holds dear.

“I knew from the day I joined the organisation, that everything they do is for a good cause and I have always wanted to be a part of helping improve the lives of those in need. “It has given me a sense of fulfillment and pride ever since I first became associated with them.”

Since taking up the reigns, Singh said the organisation had already donated 30 wheelchairs. He thanked ArcelorMittal for its aid and mutual cooperation.

Apart from the Mobility = Freedom Wheelchair Project, Singh said the organisation was involved in various other charity drives including the Warmer Winter Blanket Drive, The Old Clothes Project, a feeding scheme project and Rotary Family Health Days.

This is in addition to donations made to the public on a regular basis. Singh explained in an interview that Rotary is an international organisation with set principles which presidents are expected to adhere to, but he also uses his own initiative to support local charity drives which he feels are meaningful.

Singh described his relationship with his fellow Rotarians as close, referring to them as family more than just colleagues.

He thanked members for their dedication, effort and for working well with him during his recent time as president.

He emphasised the importance of securing funding for every project undertaken by the organisation usually generated through activities such as Rotary’s annual golf day, raffles, donations, sponsorships and more.

Singh still has plans for the remainder of his term as president. He aims to increase the number of Rotarians within the organisation, and urges others to become a part of the Majuba Rotary Club family.

The annual membership fee is only R1 300. When Singh is not out and about improving the lives of the less fortunate, he can be found behind the desk in one of his well-established businesses in the auto parts and steel industry, or playing a round of golf with a few friends.

“I am also keen on fitness and road running and have completed 20 consecutive Comrades Marathons. “I am also an avid classic car collector and a dedicated family man,” he revealed.

Singh is happily married to his wife of 33 years, Nisha and together have raised two children, Avan and Navisha.

His belief is that success is not measured by how much wealth or possessions one accumulates, but rather by how many lives one can change in their lifetime.

“Do good and always help others who are in need. It all eventually pays off,” he concluded.
