MUST READ: Reach for a Dream changes lives in Newcastle

The ‘dream team’ recently made its way to Newcastle, where it met three young dreamers who are fighting for their lives on a daily basis and set about trying to make their wishes come true.

Reach for a Dream (RFAD), which is in its 30th year, is a country-wide initiative with a goal of changing the lives of little dreamers all over South Africa.

Because the organisation believes in the power of dreams, it still encourages children to use their dreams to fight lifethreatening illnesses, even if they are uncertain about their future.

RFAD is celebrating its 30th birthday by thanking all those who have helped to instill hope in the lives of the young children.

The ‘dream team’ recently made its way to Newcastle, where it met three young dreamers who are fighting for their lives on a daily basis and set about trying to make their wishes come true.

During the visit, RFAD met young Sephesihle. Her dream was to enjoy a shopping spree with her mother and her sister, and the team joined hands with the Newcastle Mall to treat this vibrant young diva to a day of shopping fun. Snoqobile always dreamed of being a policeman.

Through the RFAD team and SAPS, he was given the chance to play policeman for the day as he toured the Newcastle police station and learned how to be the best policeman in town. The team’s final stop was a local hospital.

Young Ayabonga, who is confined to a hospital bed, said her dream was to buy a pretty dress to wear at church, and although she was to ill to go shopping herself, RFAD returned with a wonderful outfit for her to wear.

One dream at a time, this dynamic team is brightening even the darkest of days for children.
