Reunion just the ticket for Vryheid’s Spoornet retirees

RETIRED Spoornet employees recently met for a reunion and it was certainly no train wreck as they gathered for a morning of breakfast served up with a side of nostalgia.

Behind the smiles and magnificent memories of days gone by at the South African rail transport company, now known as Transnet, the group of 26 retirees took a moment to commemorate the passing of one of their fellow retirees whose funeral had incidentally taken place that same morning.

“We realise that time is not on our side anymore and, at our age, we just feel that we should take every opportunity to enjoy these moments while we can,” said Cecile du Plessis, wife of Dup du Plessis, who was one of the organisers of the reunion. “We want to introduce this on a regular basis,” she added.
