‘Dad and Mum Christmas’ notch up 34 years of married bliss
Married in Glencoe on December 8, 1984, the couple still lives in Glencoe after living and working in Gauteng for some years.
Everyone’s favourite local Father Christmas, Assie van Aswegen, and his better-half, Dalena, mark their 34th wedding anniversary on Saturday.
Married in Glencoe on December 8, 1984, the couple still lives in Glencoe after living and working in Gauteng for some years. They have three children – Gideon, Ariana and Charnê, and three grandchildren.
Now that he is ‘retired’, Assie busies himself by helping the Courier in various guises – from braaing wors for Mandela Day, dressing up as Father Christmas and even taking photographs.
He says he loves nothing more than community work (he will again be in action at the Glencoe Spar Market Day, supported by the Courier) and playing his guitar.
He says there is no truth in the rumour that he has done a remake of ’34 years living with Assie’, based on the old Smoke song.
Assie and Dalena’s family sent a message to their much-loved parents:
“Baie dankie vir die mooi voorbeeld wat julle aan ons stel om te wys wat die liefde regtig beteken. Deur dik en dun bly jul stewig staan. Dankie is so klein woordjie maar weet dat dit die wereld beteken en dat dit diep uit ons harte kom. Mag jul nog baie jare gespaar word vir mekaar. Baie liefde. Van almal’.
