Giggles under the Christmas tree
Soon one whole section of the room was filled with colourful gift boxes, hampers, food, sweet treats and many more exciting surprises.

Mischievous giggles and excitement filled the air as 47 bright-eyed children spied the mountain of presents below the Christmas tree at Morester Child and Youth Care Centre. Thusong Projects and Arcelormittal (AMSA), taking on the role of Santa Claus, were hard at work creating an unforgettable day for the children.
“Are all those presents for us, do you think?” one bewildered child was heard whispering. “Wow, I cannot wait to open them,” said another.
Soon one whole section of the room was filled with colourful gift boxes, hampers, food, sweet treats and many more exciting surprises.

The co-ordinator of the Thusong Projects Drive, Lindiwe Mahlangu, explained that each child’s gift was personally packaged in order to make it extra special and personal for the children.
“We made sure that we bought them brand new things instead of collecting hand-me-downs. They are such precious children and deserve to be treated as such. We are in a position to make this Christmas extra special for them,” she said proudly.
Eagerly the children opened their gifts. The feeling of gratitude and appreciation was palpable in the room. They thanked the sponsors profusely.
After opening gifts, the children sat down to a delicious meal supplied by Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) which included sweet treats and thirst-quenching refreshments.
Belinda Ellor, networker at Morester, thanked the team of ‘Angels’ for their very generous donation and for making the festive period a memorable one for the boys and girls at the home.

Joe Nowbath of AMSA said they aimed to ensure the lives of the children at Morester was a little brighter over Christmas this year.
“The caregivers and staff were also given gifts as tokens of appreciation for being ‘guardian angels’ to these children. One little girl (6), was heard saying “ when I got the presents I was sad but when I got the clothing then I was very happy” after which she bounced around the area full of joy.
“The boys were seen trying on their new tekkies then modelling them in the passages,” Nowbath laughed.
