Vryheid Round Table brings some relief to Saayman family in trying times

In conjunction with Farmtrac, Vryheid Round Table hosted a darts competition to raise funds for Gert Saayman.

VRYHEID Herald readers may have read with heartfelt sympathy and a deep sense of compassion the tragic story of Gert Saayman on the front page of the November 23 edition.

Afflicted by the same crippling disease as former Springbok captain, Joost van der Westhuizen and British physicist, Stephen Hawkings, the onset and swift progression of Motor Neuron Disease has seen Saayman deteriorate from a picture of perfect health, full of life and a passion for people, to a gravely ill man, almost entirely crippled by this unforgiving affliction.

In conjunction with Farmtrac, Vryheid Round Table hosted a darts competition to raise funds for Gert Saayman.

“It was a fantastic evening,” writes Round Table’s Rupert Niebuhr, “which was very well supported by our community. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to everyone who supported and contributed to the evening,” he adds. “Etienne and Cornell walked away victorious but chose to donate their prize to the auction, which raised even more funds! Funds collected have been paid to Gert and we can only hope that it brings a little bit of relief in trying times! We hope to host another darts evening in 2019 and hope to see all of Vryheid there for the festivities!”
