Racers take one last ride for 2018

The race organisers also expressed their gratitude to the public for their support at the past year’s thrilling races.

With high performance engines revving at the start line, hordes of motor racing fanatics were excitedly cheering, waiting for the start of the last Newcastle Oval Track races of the year, on Saturday (December 15).

For Zaakira Khan, one of the participants, Saturday’s racing was truly the high point of the year, and she and the other drivers are extremely grateful for the successful year they experienced.

“The racing this weekend was great with an adrenaline rush like no other. As always, there was great team spirit among all of us and it was a huge success. Unfortunately, we could not finish all three heats of the race due to the much needed rain that fell, but we were truly blessed this year and I am very excited to see what 2019 has in store for me and the other racers,” she said.

Throughout the year, many exhilarating races at the Newcastle Oval Raceway took place, and this final race was no different. Hundreds of Newcastle residents parked around the track with braai smoke filling the air and music blaring out of each car, setting up the perfect atmosphere for a fun-filled family spectacle.

The race organisers also expressed their gratitude to the public for their support at the past year’s thrilling races.

“On behalf of the committee of Newcastle Oval Track, we would like to say a heartfelt thanks to all the spectators and all our club members and their families, who are ever so willing to help,” said Shaukat Khan vice-chairman of the Newcastle Oval Track Committee 2018.

“A huge thank you to all sponsors of 2018 and to the Newcastle Advertiser for all our racing result inserts through the year. We look forward to a spectacular 2019 race season and we have something big coming up in 2019 and we cannot wait to share it with you all,” he concluded.
