MEC Kaunda determined to end road carnage in KZN
Upon release of the preliminary statistics on December 22, KwaZulu-Natal was the leading province in the country with regards to both crashes and fatalities

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison Mxolisi Kaunda welcomed the release of the 2018 Festive Season Road Safety Statistics by Minister of Transport Dr Blade Nzimande on Wednesday (January 16).
Kaunda noted that there were 267 crashes and 328 fatalities in KwaZulu-Natal during the festive season period, which ended on January 8.
There were 279 crashes and 324 fatalities last year, meaning a 10% decline. “While we recorded a slight decrease in the number of crashes this year, we remain concerned about the increase in the number of fatalities,” said Kaunda.

Upon release of the preliminary statistics on December 22, KwaZulu-Natal was the leading province in the country with regards to both crashes and fatalities.
“This report did not deter us and we continued to work around the clock to ensure that we intensified law enforcement operations throughout KZN, particularly on major national and provincial roads,” said Kaunda.
