WATCH: Mthashana FET students in Vryheid take to the streets

"We will shut down the campus until further notice."

Mthashana FET students have held a campus shutdown since Monday and say this will continue until their demands are met.

The upset learners marched through town to their main campus this morning to demand that lectures be moved to their Landrost Street campus, which they claim is in a far better condition than the main campus they are being taught in.

Issues such as late NSFAS payouts, the school not distributing students cards (which has affected students receiving discounts on bus coupons), the school being short-staffed, which has resulted in some students not having lecturers to date were among the many issues that have been tabled before the school board.

“How are we expected to write tests when we do not have people teaching us these subjects? We get to class and are told that we need to do self studies,” said the chairman of the student’s forum, Buhle Nzimande.

Students are also upset about the computer lab claiming that there are not enough computers.

“We will shut down the campus until further notice. Classes will not continue until all our needs are met,” said Nzimande.
