Sarah Harding from the game farm explained that guests from the United Kingdom (UK) were visiting in January and unbeknown to them, the frog had found a cosy home in their suitcase.
“At this time of year, frogs are regular indoor visitors,” said Ms Harding.
The tiny frog made the long journey from South Africa to the UK before it leapt out of its hiding spot. When the visitors arrived in Darlton in the UK, the woman discovered the frog while unpacking.
The frog was quickly contained as the woman placed a box over it and an Animal Collection Officer (ACO) was summoned.
According to the website mrcvs.co.uk the frog was relocated to a farm with ‘specialist facilities for exotic animals’. The South African frog will be kept in captivity and provided with specialist care.
“He is doing well considering his long journey but was very still when I first picked him up,” commented ACO Paula Jones.
The frog is comfortable and has reportedly become accustomed to the colder climate.
