Authorities swoop in on Morester Children’s Home

UPDATE: 35 Môrester children moved to places of safety
UPDATE: Court orders the return of Môrester children
The situation at Morester Children’s Home has escalated to a point where authorities have arrived to remove the children.
Social workers arrived at Morester this morning to notify caregivers of their return to remove the children.
This comes after 150 children were taken away from Morester Children’s Home in Ladysmith yesterday.
Gerhard Botha the CEO of KZN CSS (Christian Social Services) says, he was not notified about the incident or the removal of the children.
“We are willing to support any investigations. However, we never received communication from the department.”
Botha went on to explain that it is not in the interests of the children to be moved at night, like the toddlers and babies who were moved from Home Meah last night (February 15).
Botha and his team are currently in talks with the Department of Social Development and will be going the legal route.
“There’s a legal process to follow,an article 173 needs to be issued before taking any of the children.”
Speaking to family of the children affected say they have a right to know where the children are been taken.
“This move is going to cause more trauma, they already come from a broken home,” says the relative.
Officials from the DSD are currently addressing the children.
This is a developing story and we will keep you updated.
