Lieutenant Colonel Khumalo retires after 33 years and 3 months of crime-fighting

A grand farewell was held in her honour at the Crown Hotel

Lieutenant Colonel SB Khumalo of the Ladysmith Vehicle Crime Investigating Unit has retired after serving the community admirably for over three decades. Lt Col Khumalo was the first female commander of the Ladysmith Vehicle Crime Investigating Unit (VCIU).

As evidence of just how much she was loved and appreciated by her colleagues in the South African Police Service (SAPS), a grand farewell was held in her honour at the Crown Hotel on Wednesday last week (March 20).

The function was attended by senior officers from the KwaZulu-Natal SAPS Provincial VCIU, as well as other officers from across the province. Khumalo was commended for the excellent work she has put in at the unit.

The Ladysmith unit is rated as the third best performing VCIU in KZN.

Khumalo was in the detective service in Ladysmith and Ezakheni for most of her career, and has served in the SAPS for no less than 33 years and 3 months. This speaks volumes of her extensive experience as a police officer.

Although her retirement is a blow to crime-fighting, it is now time for relaxation and family.
