America made The Bachelor great again

Many girls then questioned if America was really there for Lee or if she had a hidden agenda

If you’re a fan of reality TV, you may have noticed a familiar face on your television screens.

Dundee’s own America Gopie was spotted as one of the contestants on South Africa’s edition of The Bachelor. 24 women started the journey, eager to impress the Bachelor, Lee Thompson. Lee is a 29-year-old international model who is a former Sharks rugby player.

He owns several businesses and even manages a gym called F45 Training Camps Bay.

It’s for that reason that 24 hopeful women entered the show, in the hopes of winning his heart. “I believe that love presents itself in the most unexpected ways. I am also a hopeless romantic,” said America when asked why she entered.

America also highlighted her authenticity as a reason she believed she stood out from the rest during the show.

The Bachelor launched on February 14, and despite being only a few episodes in, America received a lot of screen time. She was most notably at the centre of controversy in the house, with some of the girls questioning her motives. The controversy started after America’s journal went missing, sparking rumours that one of the other girls took it.

Talk then spread that a photo was found of her with her ‘ex-fiancé’.

Many girls then questioned if America was really there for Lee or if she had a hidden agenda. The rumours made their way to the ears of Lee as well, as fellow contestant, Kelly Tiegen, threw America under the bus. She told The Bachelor that America wasn’t there for him and admitted to seeing the journal, disclosing some of the information inside it.

With doubts filling his mind, Lee let America go.

You can watch The Bachelor on M-Net (Channel 101) every Thursday at 7pm to see who eventually wins Lee’s heart and the final rose.
