A march against teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, HIV/Aids, tuberculosis and many more was undertaken.

Armed with placards, learners from the TVET College as well as Estcourt Secondary and Estcourt High schools marched along through Harding Street on Friday.

The wet weather failed to dampen the high spirits.  Some of the placards read: ‘I am a child, don’t, make me a child mother’ and ‘My body is not a crime scene’.

The learners, teachers, community members, neighbouring clinics, LoveLife, stakeholders and guests were all part of the Adolescents and Youth Friendly Services (AYFS) 2019 Youth Festival Campaign.

The second part of the campaign was held at the Estcourt Town Hall, which reverberated when the attendees entered in song.

The programme began with the singing of the national anthem and an opening prayer from Reverend Khanyile.

Mr Buthelezi went on to share the purpose of the day. “As one of the health care facilities, that caters for the community, we were approached to address the challenges faced by the youth, such as rape and gender-based violence.”

The main aim of the event is to make locals aware that there is help and treatment available. Connor Street Clinic AYFS Champion Zandile Mayoni then introduced all the guest speakers. Among them were GroundBreakers and social workers.

Attendees listened attentively to each talk and informative posters were handed out. The Connor Street Clinic staff wishes to thank everyone that attended and got involved.
