When you have nothing, does voting mean anything?
Samson Dladla's house is without furniture and is full of sacks in which he stores his possessions

Everyone is all set for the big day, May 8, when people will be voting in the general elections, but there are people living in absolute squalor who wonder how much this day means to them.
One such person is Samson Dladla (57), who lives in Roosboom.
From the outside, his house looks like any other… But when you go inside, it’s a different story. It is a house without furniture and full of sacks in which Samson stores his meagre belongings.
“I don’t have anything. The house you see is thanks to the community, who built it for me,” says a forlorn Samson.
“Political parties have been doing door-to-door visits and hosting manifestos in the hopes that the people will put them in power, but what are they doing for someone like me?” he asks with tears in his eyes.
