Crime spike has Peacevale residents fearful
The shooting follows several recent break-ins and house invasions, during which homeowners were tied up and robbed.

Peacevale residents are desperate to hold a community meeting, to discuss how to best deal with what they say is a spike in crime in the area.
Their concerns stem, among other crime, from the fatal shooting of an Ethiopian tuckshop owner on Friday night. Witnesses say the man, known as Girma, was shot four times near the Peacevale cafè on Ayob Street.
It is not clear what the motive behind the shooting was, although it appears he was not robbed. ‘Girma’ was taken to Madadeni Hospital where he later died. He was described by those who knew him as a friendly, big-hearted person.
The shooting of Girma follows several recent break-ins and house invasions, during which homeowners were tied up and robbed.
An attempt to hold a public meeting in Peacevale last week never materialised. Despite this, residents have vowed to set up another meeting soon to discuss the crime situation.
