‘Cherish each and every moment with your children’ says Frikkie Bekker

Frikkie is a hero to many, but to none more than his son, Phillip who, at only one year and one month old, already looks to his father with the utmost admiration.

Frikkie Bekker is arguably one of the most well-known faces in the Vryheid emergency medical rescue profession.

Anyone who has found themselves in need of medical assistance, has most likely encountered Frikkie along the way and been grateful for the experience.

He is a hero to many, but to none more than his son, Phillip who, at only one year and one month old, already looks to his hero father with the utmost admiration.

“My advice to fathers in this industry is to cherish each and every moment you get to spend with your children,” Frikkie says. “In our profession, we are often away from home and we spend a lot of time away from our families. We commit ourselves to saving lives as paramedics. Each moment is precious though and we need to appreciate that. It means a lot to us to be appreciated as well.”

Frikkie points out that although he was requested to feature in this article, the staff of the private ambulance service he manages are equally deserving of recognition, for the sacrifices they make as fathers.
