Mayor slams drug abuse and motivates the youth to get business-oriented in Ladysmith

The mayor vowed to help create opportunities for the youth

Mayor Vincent Madlala of Alfred Duma Local Municipality has advised the youth of Ladysmith to refrain from drug abuse and focus on better things that lead to success in life.

The mayor was talking at a lecture held by the municipality in Ezakheni E-Section on Friday (June 28). At the lecture were youth from the area, along with delegates from the KZN Premier’s Office and Department of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (Cogta).

The main purpose was to bring to light opportunities the youth can access from the municipality and other government departments. Funds are available for those who wish to start up their own businesses via the NYDA youth office, who can help in terms of drawing up business plans and with internship programmes.

The mayor vowed to help create opportunities for the youth, going on to introduce five young people who are currently attending different universities at the municipality’s expense. A further 42 young people applied and were successful in obtaining jobs advertised by the municipality. They were also present at the lecture.
