Today’s council meeting postponed to make way for Cogta workshop

Instead of deliberating over a Special Council Meeting, councillors and management are engaged in a Back to Basics workshop

Municipal management and councillors gathered today under the impression that a Special Council Meeting would be held today (July 17).

Slowly the council chamber at the Wembezi Multi-Purpose Hall started to fill.

More than an hour after the Special Council Meeting was scheduled to start, Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Speaker Mr Mdakane called councillors to take their seats – as many took the delayed start as a catch-time with peers.

Mr Mdakane explained that the proposed council meeting is postponed to later this month.

The agenda from the Special Council Meeting that was scheduled for today.

All items on the agenda, which included a report on the municipal turnaround strategy and forensic investigation, were deferred to the Ordinary Council Meeting; a date is yet to be determined.

Instead, councillors and management were asked to be part of a Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) workshop themed Back to Basics.

This workshop delved into the intricacies on the municipal delegation structure as well as the roles and responsibilities of leadership, among others.
