According to community members, there have not been any water tankers in the area for the past eight months and they have consequently been pleading for assistance.

“There are no working community boreholes in the area. The only source of water is a borehole at the local Islamic school,” said Gift of the Givers Estcourt volunteer Jaaved Khan.

On Monday, 1000 five-litre bottles of water were distributed to about 350 families.

“They were extremely happy and grateful for the supplies. An elderly lady shouted out loud, ‘Today we will drink proper clean water’, and then started singing and dancing. That was a sign of real appreciation,” added Mr Khan.
