Municipality outlines plans to improve electricity services

AbaQulusi Local Municipality outlines plans to improve electricity services and strengthen communication with consumers.

The AbaQulusi Local Municipality says it is taking steps to address concerns about electricity infrastructure and safety following a petition submitted by residents and business owners.

Municipality responds to petition

In a formal response dated June 18, Municipal Manager Mrs SP Dlamini said the municipality is dealing with the issues through lawful, transparent and accountable processes.

The response addresses a range of concerns, including ageing infrastructure, electricity safety, staff competency, cable theft and vandalism. It also outlines several projects already under way and others planned for the coming financial year.

Customer forum proposed

To improve communication with consumers, the municipality has proposed establishing a quarterly Customer Education Forum.

According to the municipality, the forum will allow residents to raise concerns about electricity supply, infrastructure and service delivery, while also receiving updates on municipal projects, maintenance programmes and compliance matters.

The municipality said the forum would create an opportunity for residents to engage directly with municipal officials and technical experts. It also aims to educate consumers about legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act and NRS 048, helping residents better understand their rights and responsibilities.

Commitment to service delivery

In its response, the municipality thanked residents for raising their concerns through the petition and reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery.

“The concerns and requests raised by residents and business owners are being addressed through lawful, transparent and accountable processes,” the municipality stated.
