Champions anglers reel in provincial accolades

Parents and grandparents are also involved with the coaching and development of the children, since they all share a love of the sport.

Newcastle Angling Club recently held its prize-giving ceremony, which included the announcement of who will represent KwaZulu-Natal in the national competition.

The club was founded in 1889 and has been active throughout the years, producing many great anglers who have represented KZN and the South African Freshwater Bank Angling Federation (SAFBAF) teams.

The 60 members and their families had a most enjoyable night on July 5.

Many anglers were awarded with floating trophies and prizes for their good performances.

“It is with pride that the KZN Fresh Water Bank Angling Federation will participate in the Under-13 and U-19 categories of the SA Championships, at Bloemhof Dam from December 7 to 11.

This dam is probably the most popular angling venue in the country for competitive freshwater angling,” said members the committee.

Parents and grandparents are also involved with the coaching and development of the children, since they all share a love of the sport.

“These youngsters enjoy their fishing and decided to rather be active in nature, instead of staying indoors. Youngsters who would like to learn the skill of fishing are welcome to contact Piet van der Westhuizen on 082 370 3726.”

Interested parties keen on joining the club, or who would like to find out more about angling, can contact J.P. Joubert on 072 130 6638 or Nickey van Straaten on 072 667 3948.
