Ratepayer complains of ‘deplorable’ service at municipality

Customer is left to wait while cashier is out fetching till rolls

In an attempt to ‘beat the queue’, Addool Esoup decided to pay his municipal account early last Friday morning, but this was not to be…

A usually quick trip to Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality before heading to work turned out to be a wait that lasted more than 15 minutes, in an empty payment office.

“When I got to the building, there was no cashier. I enquired from other staff members and was told that the cashier had gone to fetch till rolls for the receipts. I have been waiting 15 minutes and she is still not back yet. This is deplorable; it is really not on,” said Mr Esoup when speaking to the Estcourt News while waiting for service at the ’round building’.

The resident’s main concern is that ratepayers should be receiving better service.

“I think that the cashier could have ensured that she had sufficient till rolls before close of business the previous day. It seems as if municipal staff prioritise themselves before customer service. They are not interested in the work they are doing,” said an angry Mr Esoup.

He did, however, mention that this was the first time he had received poor service at the payment office.

“Previously, service has been spot-on, but today I am p!$%ed off,” he concluded.

Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality’s Communication Department was contacted with these concerns, but no response has been received yet.
