Main sewer line blockage floods homeowner’s yard in Bengal Road

The overflowing, stinky water is attracting flies and mosquitoes

Residents at 6 Bengal Road are fed up with trying to get the sewer problem in their yard fixed by uThukela District Municipality. Mr Gian Singh says the main sewer line is blocked at the back of his yard and has now started to flood his backyard, as well as their neighbour’s property.

The residents’ hands are now tied, as they have to wait for municipal workers to come and attend to the situation. This after numerous calls and failed attempts to get some assistance.

They hope the municipality comes to fix the sewer line soon, as they feel it is a health risk due to the stinky water pouring out. The overflowing water in turn is attracting flies and mosquitoes.

Councillor Abbas Warasally will be taking the matter further with the municipality. He commented that the problem stems from the fact that sewer pumps are not working around town.
