R13 million worth of plant equipment to help uThukela speed up service delivery

According to the district municipality, the machinery will assist in the battle to attend to service delivery challenges quicker

uThukela District Municipality has received R13 million worth of plant equipment from provincial government, to be used to help municipalities fast-track service delivery.

This was announced by KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism & Environmental Affairs Nomusa Dube-Ncube at a joint EXCO meeting held at the Okhahlamba Sports Complex on Tuesday, October 22.

According to the district municipality, the yellow metal machinery will assist in the battle to attend to service delivery challenges quicker.

The machines include two TLBs, two water tankers, an excavator, two walk-behind rollers, a grader, a waste compactor and a honey sucker.

MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube kicked off the activities on October 22 with a road inspection at the Bergville municipal interchange, the aim of which was to check permits and see if vehicles were roadworthy.

The MEC was accompanied by uThukela District Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko, Deputy Mayor NW Mchunu, Okhahlamba Mayor MG Ndlangisa, Alfred Duma Mayor Vincent Madlala, Inkosi Langalibalele Mayor J Mbele and Inkosi Sithole.

The focus was on Transport & Productivity Month, which is aimed at ensuring safety and accountability for services provided by provincial government.

The next activity of the day was the joint EXCO meeting at the Okhahlamba Sports Complex, which comes in the wake of the municipal assessment report that was compiled by the department.

The meeting also focused on Operation Khawuleza, which was launched at the Dukuza Sports Ground in Bergville, under Okhahlamba Local Municipality.

Mayor Mazibuko welcomed the community of Dukuza to the event and Inkosi Sithole pleaded with the community to take care of the machinery given to them.

The MEC delivered the keynote address at the EXCO meeting.
