The Vryheid community is gearing up for war with the municipality, over a water crisis which has engulfed the area for some time.
Residents and members of AfriForum held a meeting on Sunday afternoon at the AfriForum offices, to discuss ways to fight for their right to water, and to also try and find solutions to present to AbaQulusi Local Municipality, which has been inundated by a lack of provision of basic services and has constantly been put under ministerial pressure by the provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA).
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss poor service delivery, especially the standard of water and electricity services.
Residents were admittedly eager to assist the municipality wherever they could, even offering technical skills to fix the water crisis.
On Monday, chairperson of AfriForum Vryheid, Andre van der Walt gave a letter of demands to the municipality and said he expected a response within the next seven working days.
