It has been another busy and successful week at Vryheid High School, with learners representing the school on the sports field, serving the community through environmental initiatives and showcasing their musical talents.

Soccer teams take on Volksrust

On Wednesday last week, the school’s soccer teams travelled to Volksrust High School for a series of exciting fixtures.

The under-15 boys fought hard but were defeated 7-1, while the first team produced an outstanding performance to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory.

The school congratulated all its soccer players on their determination and sportsmanship.

Girls’ cricket team continues winning form

The first-team girls’ cricket side travelled to Ladysmith on Thursday, where they recorded an impressive eight-wicket victory.

A standout performance came from Raeesa Patel and Angela Stoltenkamp, who shared an excellent 70-run partnership to guide the team to victory.

The school congratulated the girls on another outstanding performance, praising their dedication and teamwork.

EcoClub cleans up the community

The EcoClub was back in action on Friday, once again demonstrating that small actions can make a big difference.

Learners cleaned Utrecht Street, Kommissie Street, adjacent to the VHS hostel, and the area surrounding the Donkey Field, collecting an impressive 18 bags of litter.

The school thanked every learner who sacrificed part of their Friday afternoon to help keep the community clean, saying their commitment to environmental stewardship is an inspiration.

Shoba crowned soccer tournament champions

The annual Vryheid High School Soccer Tournament took place on Saturday, with schools from across the region competing in an exciting day of football.

The tournament produced the following results:

• Shoba 3-1 Kwabanya
• Landbou 0-5 Filidi
• Vryheid High School 0-2 Vryheid Comprehensive
• Hlanguza 1-3 Nhlosenhle
• Mpofini 4-5 Shoba
• Filidi 4-2 Vryheid Comprehensive
• Nhlosenhle 1-6 Shoba

The final saw Shoba defeat Filidi 2-1 to claim the 2026 tournament title.

The school congratulated Shoba on its achievement and thanked all sponsors, the organising committee, officials, volunteers and everyone who worked behind the scenes to ensure another successful tournament.

Choir performs at church anniversary

On Sunday, the Vryheid High School Choir performed at the NG Suid-Oos Church as part of the congregation’s 75th anniversary celebrations.

The school said the invitation was recognition of the choir’s talent and dedication, adding that the learners delivered a heartfelt performance that uplifted and inspired the audience.
